Over the course of the four days onboard the Spirit of Freedom, we had the opportunity to make 14 daytime dives and 1 night dive along sections of the Ribbon Reef in the Coral Sea. Looking at the numbers we captured over 650 photos and videos, so we’re only able to post a fraction of them. It’s way too easy for us to geek out on the underwater images and overdo it.
There were a couple of coral pinnacles we dove (vertical coral pillars from the sand bottom at about 120 feet to about 15 feet below the water surface) including Pixie Pinnacle and Steve’s Bommie that were really special to see. We’ll include some of those images and then move on. And we’ll hold back on the real story behind the naming of Steve’s Bommie for later.

We very gratefully thank James and the whole crew of the Spirit of Freedom for a trip that way exceeded our expectations! They are an extremely hard-working bunch and the level of detail in briefing dives and tracking the dive information and gear was very reassuring to first-time live aboard folks like us. They also don’t forget to have some fun!
