The remnants of the storm are not quite done with us, but we took a walk across the road and out to the beach.

About 15 km south of Carters Beach is Cape Foulwind (no joke, so named by the English explorer Captain James Cook – apparently he was having a bad day).
But there is a walking trek to the lighthouse and a fur seal colony which is worth braving the wind, spray and mist.


And of course more Wekas…

Island Rock across from the seal colony is a very significant nesting location for sea birds, as it has no predators like rats, stoats or cats.
And then there are the fur seals, hanging out on the rocks or anywhere they can find a relatively comfortable spot.
