The 3-hour drive from Nelson to Carters Beach today was quite wet, windy and twisty. And it apparently would not be NZ without some gorges and wekas. Gorges first, wekas to follow…


And then there are the Weka’s… a flightless NZ bird with an insatiable curiosity and an aptitude for snatching anything within reach only to run off with it to inspect the item further somewhere under cover. Never chase a Weka, they are too fast – better to see where they have gone and retrieve your stolen possessions later after the Weka has lost interest.

The forecast calls for more rain tomorrow, so it is looking like a chill day.
