Yes – are in Cairns!

First order of business after check-in was shower, change and food! Unfortunately we were right in between lunch and dinner service, but the Salt House on the point of the harbor had great small plates, arancini, dumplings and also margaritas! We got to watch a squadron of junior (7-8 year) sailors from the Cairns Yacht Club take their two person boats around the markers in the harbor.

Cairns is the northernmost large city in Queensland and quite a bit more tropical than we anticipated and it’s awesome. Lots of birds, palms, and other greenery we have no recognition of.

As the Qantas flight crew noted their respect for the use of the indigenous peoples lands upon arrival, we feel we should also thank the indigenous Yidinji people for our use of their land (and waters) and for safe travels.

Then there is the view from the room before and after the arrival of the largest cruise ship we have ever seen…

Before the cruise ship…
After the cruise ship…
