The wind calmed down (a bit) and the sun is out full force so we were able to take some photos around the Sennen House before our drive from Picton to Nelson.

Before getting into all that, we were fortunate to get a table at Sisu in Picton for dinner last night, with wonderful local wine, food (crispy cabbage leaves & trevalley ceviche!) and views…

Fortunately our rental is a hybrid Toyota Rav4, which takes some getting used to in battery (silent running) mode. The best part of the 100 km trip to Nelson is along the Queen Charlotte Drive, as it follows all of the twists and turns of the slopes that we saw cascading down to the sea when we arrived.

There is also a great deal of clear-cutting of pine timber among the hills and slopes – which do appear to be re-planted in a sustainable effort.

And we stopped to do some hiking…

There was one only guy and his dog on this beach – they arrived by boat!
We packed lunch and found a table here

Settled in at Nelson, we booked a half-day sea kayak tour in the marine park in Abe Tasman National Park tomorrow morning at 8:30. Only after we book it we find out that the drive to the outfitter is about 1-1/2 hours – early morning!
