We made it to Oban!
Still working on the pronunciation (which is Oh-bin). After an overnight flight a full travel day, +4 hours of driving on the left, takes its toll but well worth pressing on.
There was a break in the journey at the Loch Lomond Birds of Prey Centre (thanks to E for the recall on posing with the owl near a loch).
Lots of raptors that are being cared for at this facility and we managed to catch a live flight feature with a few hungry performers.

A very wet and twisty drive from the loch to Oban, and it was noted that I was favoring the left edge of the road a bit, but when you are facing down large lorries and buses coming at you at 50 on the wrong side for us, better to be on the safe side than being a hood ornament…

Oban is a very compact and hilly port town, which apparently developed around trade and really hit its stride when the Oban Distillery opened around 1830. Lots of very nice stone houses with gardens so it appears that quite a few of the locals did quite well back in the day.

Day 2 – After having some lunch and a couple of pints at one of the local pubs, The Oban Inn (est. 1790),

we did drop in for a tasting of what the Highlands has to offer at the Oban Distillery.

Lots to learn about scotch… but tomorrow AM we load the car onto the ferry for the hour-long trip over to the Isle of Mull.

Oh and this is part of the view from our room at Greencourt Guesthouse and we get to see how the pensioners stay sharp and in shape…
Slainte & Cheers all!
